Exercises in cori
The overview: the learning path at the heart of it, plus sing-along, audio analysis and challenges — and which of those work in the browser and in the app.
Web + app
With the exercises in cori you train on your own, whenever you feel like it — ear, rhythm and voice. At the heart of it is the learning path: a guided route rather than a list, and the same one on both platforms. Alongside it there are a few tools that have no goal at all but are simply there when you need them. This page puts it all in order.
For ear training, headphones somewhere quiet; for rhythm, just a screen to tap on; for voice, a microphone. You don't need a subscription for any of these exercises. Pitch detection runs entirely on your device — cori doesn't upload a recording for any exercise.
The learning path
In cori the learning path is called Your musical journey and is the practice interface on both platforms. It starts with “First Steps” — three stations, one per type of exercise — and then splits into three branches:
- Ear Training — hearing and naming notes, intervals, scale degrees and chord colours
- Rhythm — tapping, reading, recognising and rebuilding rhythms
- Voice — vocal exercises where cori listens in through the microphone
You work your way forward station by station: every completed exercise opens the next one. For each round you get a score, up to three stars and XP; if you already know a topic, you skip it with a quick test.
In the browser via the Learning path entry in the sidebar, in the app via the Exercises tile on the home screen.
In the browser via the three cards above the path, in the app by swiping sideways.
The highlighted station is your next step. After the round you'll see your score, XP and your streak.
Described in detail in The learning path, Ear, rhythm, voice and How a practice round works.
The learning path is the same on both platforms — and so is your progress: it's tied to your account and synced between browser and app. Even if you practise in both, you still have just one standing.
What else there is
| Exercise | What it is | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Sing-along | Sing along to one of your choir's songs while cori shows you your pitch | Web and app |
| Challenges | Shared practice goals in the choir, put together from exercises and songs | Web and app |
| Audio analysis | A mirror: sing into it and watch your pitch live on the staff, with no scoring | App only |
| Piano and metronome | A note to pitch yourself, a click to count along to | App only |
Unlike the learning path, these four have no goal and no progress — they're tools. They still keep your streak alive, though, whenever there's a practice round behind them.
If you're just starting out
- You've never practised with cori: open the learning path and play the three “First Steps”. It takes a few minutes and afterwards you'll have tried every type of exercise once.
- You don't feel like singing right now: the voice station in “First Steps” can be skipped with “Can't sing right now” — ear and rhythm open up anyway.
- You can already do all of this: use the quick tests and jump to wherever it gets interesting for you.
- You only want to practise for the next rehearsal: then sing-along with the actual piece is closer to your goal than the learning path.
