The piano and metronome as tools
Use the built-in piano and metronome independently of any sheet music.
App only
The piano and metronome as standalone tools are only available in the cori app.
Need a quick reference note to compare against, or a beat to practise to — without opening a piece of sheet music first? In the app, cori has a piano and a metronome as standalone tools that you can call up at any time.
You'll find both tools in the cori app via the tools menu (the wrench) on the home screen. Using them inside the sheet music view has its own article — see below.
The piano
In the tools menu, tap Piano. A keyboard opens that you can use to play and compare notes. In the settings you can adapt the piano to suit you:
- Show Note Names – shows the names on the keys
- Sustain Pedal – lets notes ring on
- Keystroke Intensity – responds to how hard you tap
You can open the piano at any time by shaking your device — handy when you're in the middle of another screen and quickly need a note.
The metronome
In the tools menu, tap Metronome. You'll see a start/stop button with a visual beat indicator. You can set:
- Tempo (BPM) – with the slider, the plus/minus buttons, or by tap tempo: simply tap along with the beat and cori works out the tempo
- Beats – set how many beats a bar has and which one is accented
- Sound on/off – mute the audible click with the speaker icon and practise purely visually
How it differs from the sheet music view
These two tools are standalone and independent of any song. In the full-screen sheet music view there's also an overlaid metronome and piano that match the sheets you have open — those are described in Using the metronome and overlay piano.
