Taking part in challenges
Practise towards a weekly goal together as a choir – here's how challenges work in cori.
Web + app
Challenges turn practising into a team effort: your choir director sets a shared goal of exercises and songs every week, and every practice session you do counts for the whole choir. You work towards it together – it's not about who practises the most, but about reaching the goal as a group.
Challenges are part of your choir's cori premium subscription. You'll find them in the cori app for iOS and Android as well as in the web app.
What is a challenge?
A challenge is a weekly goal created by your choir director. It always runs for exactly one week and contains a selection of tasks for you to practise as a choir. Each task is one of two kinds:
- Exercises – guided warm-up and training exercises from the singing, ear and rhythm areas.
- Songs – a song, or a particular passage of one, that you practise in sing-along mode.
Each task comes with a target for how often it should be practised. All the sessions from all the singers together add up to the choir's Common Goal.
As soon as your choir director starts a challenge, you're automatically in – there's no join button. You simply take part by practising the exercises and songs. Your progress is counted automatically; you don't have to log anything by hand.
Where to find your challenge
If a challenge is running, you'll see a challenge card with a progress bar for the common goal on your Home screen. Tap it to open all the details.
At the top you see how many days the challenge still runs for (3 left), the progress towards the Common Goal, and below that, under Your exercises, all the tasks with your personal standing.
If no challenge is currently active, it says No active challenge – your choir director hasn't set one this week yet. Just check back later.
Practising a task
In the Your exercises list, tap Start on the task you want to do. For a song that hasn't been downloaded yet, it first says Download – tap once to load it, then tap Start.
Exercises open as guided training, songs start in sing-along mode with real-time pitch feedback. Practise the task through to the end as usual.
At the end, cori counts your session towards the challenge automatically. A short animation confirms it, and your progress on that task and on the common goal grows.
Your progress and the common goal
On the challenge screen you see two levels of progress:
- Your Goal – how many of the tasks you personally have practised often enough. A task counts as done as soon as you've practised it as many times as required; it then gets a green tick. Once you've finished them all, You're all caught up! appears.
- Common Goal – the big bar at the top. Every singer in the choir contributes to it; the challenge is only complete once you've collected enough sessions together.
When time is getting short, the day counter turns red once fewer than two days are left. cori can also nudge you with a reminder if you're still behind the goal.
When you reach the goal
As soon as the whole choir reaches the common goal, there's confetti and the message Challenge Complete! – Your choir reached the goal together! Tap Celebrate! to join in; below it you can see how many people from the choir have celebrated already.
What you get out of it
- Challenge bonus: For every task you practise as part of a challenge there's an extra +5 XP on top – your normal practice XP plus the challenge bonus.
- Your streak keeps going: A challenge session counts towards your daily practice streak just like any other exercise. During a challenge, cori shows you the challenge animation instead of the streak animation – but your streak still grows exactly as normal.
You don't have to do it all at once. Even a short practice session a day brings you and the choir closer to the common goal – and keeps your streak alive along the way.
