Using cori without internet
What works offline in the app, what the browser needs — and how to prepare for a rehearsal with no signal.
Web + app
Church basements, village churches, trains — rehearsal venues often have terrible reception. How much of cori still works then depends a lot on whether you're using the app or the browser. In short: the app is built for working offline, the browser needs a connection.
The mobile app stores your choir data locally on the device and can show plenty of it without a connection. The web app, on the other hand, loads its content live from the server — without internet it stays largely empty. If you know there's no signal at your rehearsal venue, take the app.
In the app: this works offline
The app keeps a local copy of your choirs. So even without a connection you can still:
- play downloaded songs and view the matching sheet music
- do exercises — they run entirely on the device
- browse the Calendar and any appointments already loaded
- read back through existing chats
While you're offline, cori shows a "No internet connection" notice at the top of the screen so you know that nothing is being synced right now.
What doesn't work without a connection is everything that happens on the server: uploading files to the Files area, sending messages, joining a choir, creating invitation links or managing your subscription. cori remembers your local changes and syncs them as soon as you're back online — more on that under Syncing between devices.
In the browser
The web app fetches choirs, songs and appointments fresh from the server every time you open it. Without a connection there's not much you can do with it — even if you've installed it as a PWA. For use without reception, the mobile app is the way to go.
Before the rehearsal: get set up while you're online
So that nothing is missing in the rehearsal room, it's best to do the following in the app beforehand — with a signal or on Wi-Fi:
Launch cori while you have a connection. On opening, the app syncs automatically and fetches the latest appointments, songs and messages.
Open the songs you want to practise once while online — or turn on "Download songs automatically" so cori loads them in advance. Over Wi-Fi that won't eat into your mobile data.
Open the sheet music for the pieces you have planned once, so it's stored locally and is there instantly when you're offline.
By default, cori only downloads songs over Wi-Fi. If you want to allow downloads over mobile data too, turn on "Use cellular data (if WI-FI not connected)" in the download settings. Otherwise large files can cost you a lot of data.
