Syncing between devices

How cori keeps the app and the browser in step, when it syncs, and how to trigger a sync yourself.

Web + app

Your account, your choirs and all their content live on the cori server. The app and the browser are just windows onto the same data — sign in with the same account and you see the same thing everywhere. This guide explains when cori syncs and how to trigger a sync yourself when you need to.

One account, all devices

You can be signed in on your computer's browser and on your phone's app at the same time. Whatever you change on one device shows up on the other after the next sync.

When syncing happens

Web app
The browser loads the content fresh from the server every time you open it. So what you see in the browser is the state as of the moment it loaded — there's no local copy that could go stale.
Mobile app
The app keeps a local copy and syncs it automatically: when you open it, when you come back from the background, and after every change you make (a message, an upload, an appointment and so on).

Because the app stores things locally, you can keep working with it without a connection. Your changes are remembered and sent over the next time you're online — see Using cori without an internet connection.

One exception in the browser: the learning path

The learning path is the one place where the browser keeps a local record too. Every round is saved immediately and synced with your account shortly afterwards. So if the connection drops, you can carry on practising — the rounds are submitted as soon as you're back online.

Refreshing manually

Most of the time you don't have to do anything. If you want to be sure you have the latest state:

In the app

Pull the list down with your finger — in the choir, in the member list or in the Drive, for example (“pull to refresh”). cori then syncs straight away. The same thing happens anyway when you close the app and open it again.

In the browser

Reload the page. Since the browser always fetches the data fresh, that brings you right up to date.

When two devices change the same thing

The server is the authoritative source. If you change the same thing on two devices at (almost) the same time, the change that reaches the server last wins. In practice this is rarely an issue, because the app syncs immediately after every action. If a device still seems to be lagging behind, a manual sync helps (see above).

Something missing or looking out of date?

First check that you're signed in to the same account on both devices, and trigger a manual sync. If that doesn't help, you'll find further steps in Changes aren't syncing.
