Materials in an organization
Where the practice videos, lyrics and sheet music come from, how kids work with them — and why teachers don't have to upload anything.
App only
An organization's materials are only available in the phone app.
Unlike in a choir, nobody uploads material locally in an organization. The songs, practice videos, lyrics and sheet music come centrally from the organizer and are available to everyone taking part right away. This article shows what's on offer, how the kids practise with it, and what that means for teachers.
There's no upload feature for groups in the app. So you don't have to put together videos or sheet music yourself: every child in your group automatically sees the same programme from the organization. If a piece is missing or something is wrong, that's for the organizer to fix — not the group leader.
What's on the home screen
Right at the top, scrollable sideways: short warm-up videos. Meant for the start of every rehearsal.
Below that, the programme itself — one practice video per song. Newly added pieces carry a New badge so they don't get overlooked.
Some organizations also unlock individual songs as full cori songs. You download those and can then practise them with cori's learning features — including singing along with the microphone button at the right-hand end of the row. Whether this section exists at all is up to the organization.
How kids work with a practice video
Tapping a song opens the video player. It can do more than just play:
- Parts. Below the video you're asked which part you want to practise: typically Intro, Choreography, Tips, Instrumental, plus one version each for the left and right voice. A tap jumps exactly there instead of scrubbing around.
- Scrolling lyrics. The text scrolls in sync with the video, with the current line highlighted.
- Sheet music. If sheet music exists for the song, the icon on the right switches between lyrics and the score.
- Landscape. Turn the device and the video plays large, with the lyrics available full-screen — handy when the whole group is watching one tablet.
Whether a child has picked Left or Right doesn't hide any version. The voice choice is a guide; the video parts for both voices are always there for everyone. That way a group can listen to the other voice together too.
Practising offline
The practice videos are streamed and need an internet connection. The unlocked cori songs, on the other hand, download to the device via the cloud icon; a progress ring shows how far along it is. After that they play without a network too — for rehearsals in rooms with poor reception it's worth getting that done at home beforehand.
When something's missing
- "No songs yet" means the organization hasn't added anything for this season yet, or the content is still to come.
- A video won't open. Check your internet connection; the videos are delivered by YouTube and won't work on networks that block YouTube.
- A new song doesn't show up. Close the app completely and open it again so the content is loaded fresh.
