Songs, videos and sheet music in the 6K practice room

Where the practice videos, follow-along lyrics and sheet music in the 6K practice room come from, how children practise with them, and why teachers don't have to upload anything.

Web + app

Unlike in a choir, nobody on site uploads material in the 6K practice room. The songs of the season, the practice videos, follow-along lyrics and sheet music come centrally from 6K UNITED! and are available to all participants straight away, in the app and in the browser. This article shows what there is, how the children practise with it and what that means for teachers.

For teachers: no upload needed, and none possible

There is no upload function for groups in the 6K practice room. So you don't have to put together videos or sheet music: all the children in your group automatically see the same programme for the season. If a song is missing or something is wrong, 6K UNITED! is responsible, not the group lead.

What's on the home screen

1
Warm-up

Right at the top, scrollable sideways: short videos for warming up the voice. Meant for the start of every rehearsal.

2
All songs

Below that, the actual programme for the season, one practice video per song. Newly added pieces carry a New badge so they don't get overlooked.

3
Songs powered by cori

For individual songs of the season, the app additionally offers full cori songs. You download those and then practise them with cori's learning features, including the sing-along with live pitch feedback via the microphone button at the right-hand end of the row. Whether and which songs are unlocked this way is decided by 6K UNITED! for each season.

How children work with a practice video

A tap on a song opens the video player. It can do more than just play:

  • Chapter markers. Under the video it asks which part you want to practise: typically warm-up, choreo, tips and instrumental, plus one version each for the left and the right voice. A tap jumps exactly there instead of spooling around for ages.
  • Follow-along lyrics. The lyrics scroll in sync with the video, and the current line is highlighted.
  • Sheet music. If there's sheet music for the song, you open it as a PDF right beside the video with the sheet music symbol.
  • A big picture. In the app you turn the device to landscape, and the video plays large while the lyrics can be shown full screen. In the browser there's the full-screen button for that. Handy when the whole group is looking at one tablet or at the whiteboard.
The voice doesn't control anything automatically

Whether a child has set Left or Right doesn't hide any version. The voice choice is a piece of orientation; the video sections for both voices are always there for everyone. That way a group can also listen to the other voice together.

Practising offline

The practice videos are streamed and need an internet connection, in the app as well as the browser. The unlocked cori songs, on the other hand, you download onto the device in the app with the cloud symbol; a progress ring shows how far it's got. After that they play without a network too. For rehearsals in rooms with poor reception, it's worth doing that at home beforehand.

When something is missing

  • “No songs yet” means: 6K UNITED! hasn't put anything in for this season yet, or the songs are still to come.
  • A video won't open. Check the internet connection; the videos are delivered by YouTube and don't work on networks that block YouTube.
  • A new song doesn't show up. Close the app completely and open it again, or reload the page in the browser, so that the content is fetched fresh.
