Changes don't show up on the other device

When the web and the app show different states — what causes it, how to refresh manually, and when something really is missing.

Web + app

You changed something on your phone, but it isn't there on the web yet — or the other way round? Usually it's only a matter of seconds and a refresh. This guide shows you how cori syncs data, how to trigger a sync, and how to tell when something really is missing.

How cori syncs

The web app always loads your data fresh from the server — what you see is the current state as soon as the page has loaded. The mobile app additionally keeps a local copy so that it's fast and usable offline. That copy syncs with the server when the app starts, when it comes back from the background, and after you make changes. So a different state almost always means: the app hasn't done its latest sync yet.

1. Check your connection

No internet, no sync. First check whether you're online:

  • If the app shows the notice "No internet connection" with a crossed-out Wi-Fi icon at the top, the device is offline. As soon as the connection is back, cori syncs by itself.
  • You also need to be signed in — syncing only runs with a valid sign-in. If you haven't been in the app for a very long time, the first attempt after opening it can fail and is retried automatically. Give the app a moment after opening it.

2. Trigger a refresh

If the other state doesn't catch up on its own, give it a hand:

Web app
Reload the page. That makes the web app fetch the current state straight from the server.
Mobile app
Bring the app back to the foreground from the background — it syncs as it does so. In many lists (choir, drive, members and so on) you can also pull down to refresh manually.

If you made a change yourself and it isn't reaching the other device: the device you made it on has to have been online at the time of the change. If it wasn't, make the change again with a working connection.

3. Is the right choir selected?

cori always shows songs, appointments, chats and members for the choir currently selected. If you're in several choirs, a change may simply be in a different choir from the one you're looking at. Switch choirs and check there.

How to switch between choirs is described under Switching between choirs.

4. Last resort: sign out and back in

If none of that helps, sign out of the app and back in. Signing out removes the local copy on that device, and signing back in loads everything fresh from the server. That reliably clears up a stuck local state.

Before you sign out

Signing out also removes downloaded songs from that device, and they have to be downloaded again later. So only take this step once you've checked your connection, refreshed, and confirmed your choir selection.

When something really is missing

If both devices are online, refreshed and set to the same choir — and an entry is still permanently missing — get in touch with support. That's especially true if a change doesn't appear on any device: in that case it probably wasn't saved at all. Do mention what you changed, on which device, and whether it's missing on the web or in the app.
