I can't hear anything

When playback or exercises stay silent in cori — from device volume to the mixer to playback in the browser, step by step to the cause.

Web + app

You press play, but nothing comes out? Most often it's down to your device's volume, or to a voice being muted in the mixer. Work through the points from top to bottom — they're sorted so that the quickest causes come first.

Does it affect all songs or just one?

If only one particular song stays silent while others play, it's almost never down to your device — in that case the song is probably still missing its audio track (see “A single song stays silent” below). If everything is quiet, work through the list from the top.

1. Your device's volume and mute switch

It sounds obvious, but it's the most common case:

  • Turn the system volume up — on your phone with the volume buttons while cori is playing (that way you're definitely adjusting the media volume and not the ringtone).
  • On an iPhone, check the mute switch on the side; on Android, check the media volume profile.
  • If another app with sound is running at the same time (a video, a call), it can block cori — close it.

2. Headphones and Bluetooth

  • If your Bluetooth headphones are still connected to another device (a laptop, a second phone), the sound goes there instead of to you. Disconnect it there or pair the headphones again.
  • Check the volume on the headphones themselves.
  • To rule it out: disconnect the headphones briefly and test through the device speaker.

3. The mixer — a voice is muted

cori plays a song as several voices, and each one can be muted or turned down individually in the Mixer. If the wrong voice (or all of them) is muted, you hear nothing or too little.

1
Open the mixer

Open the mixer during playback. Each voice has its own switch and a volume slider.

2
Unmute

Tap a voice's icon to mute it or switch it back on. Drag the slider up if a voice is too quiet.

3
Check the preset

If the mixer is set to Own Voice or Own Voice Louder, you mainly hear your own voice. If the current song has no track for your voice, it stays silent with that preset. Try switching to All Voices Equally Loud.

Is the “Own Voice” preset greyed out?

The own-voice presets only work if your voice has been set. Otherwise cori points that out: “Set your voice in your profile to use this preset”. How to do that is described under Choosing your voice.

You'll find more about the mixer under Mixing voices. The permanent setting for which voices are played is in the playback settings.

4. Kick off playback again in the browser or app

Web app
Browsers only allow sound after you've tapped or clicked something on the page. cori unlocks playback on your first interaction — so if you press play once and nothing happens, click somewhere on the page and start again. Also check whether the browser tab is muted (the little speaker icon on the tab).
Mobile app
If playback doesn't react at all, close cori completely and open the app again.

If that doesn't help, reload the page (web) or restart the app (app). That rebuilds the audio output from scratch.

A single song stays silent

If everything else plays and only this one song doesn't, it's usually down to the song itself and not to your device:

  • A freshly uploaded or created song needs a moment until cori has processed the audio tracks. Wait a few minutes and load the song again.
  • The song may not have an audible audio track at all, just sheet music. Ask the choir leadership whether a recording has been added for this song.

When you need support

If it stays quiet despite the volume being up, the mixer being active and a restart — and that goes for all songs — get in touch with support. Tell them whether you're on the web or in the app, which device you're using and whether other apps on the same device produce sound.
