Moving and renaming files

Tidying up in the Drive — one at a time, or several files and folders at once.

Web + app

A tidy Drive helps the whole choir. This guide shows you how to rename files and folders, move them into other folders, work on several at once and sort the view.

Who's allowed to reorganise?

Renaming, moving and copying are reserved for the choir leadership and the admins. Other members can view the Drive and download files, but can't reorganise anything.

Renaming

1
Open the actions
Web app
Hover over the file or folder and click the three-dot menu.
Mobile app
Tap the three-dot menu on the tile.
2
Choose “Rename”

Choose Rename, enter the new name and confirm. The same rules apply as when creating: up to 255 characters, no / or \, and the name has to be unique within the folder.

Moving

You can put a file or a folder into another folder (or back into the root directory).

Web app
Either via the three-dot menu › “Move” and then picking the destination — or drag and drop the entry straight onto a folder or onto an entry in the breadcrumb bar.
Mobile app
Via the three-dot menu › “Move”. In the dialog, choose the destination folder or “Files root”.
A folder can't wander into itself

cori stops you from moving a folder into itself or into one of its own subfolders — that would create an endless loop. In that case you'll see the note “Cannot move folder into itself”.

Several at once

For a tidy-up, the multiple selection comes in handy:

Web app
Hold Ctrl (or ⌘) and click several entries, or drag out a range with the Shift key held down. The selection bar then offers “Move selected” and “Delete selected”.
Mobile app
Press and hold an entry to start the selection, and mark more by tapping them. In the selection bar at the top you'll find Move and Delete for the whole selection.

Copying

For individual files only: via the three-dot menu › Copy, cori creates a copy in the same folder, named “Copy of …”. Folders can't be copied. A copy takes up additional space — keep an eye on your storage quota.

Sorting the view

Sort only changes how the list is displayed — it doesn't change anything about the files themselves. The options include “Name A→Z”, “Name Z→A”, “Newest”, “Oldest”, “Recently modified” and size. Folders are always shown before files.
